The Beauty of Backyard Sheds

Last spring during spring cleaning week I was hauling stuff back and forth between a storage facility across town and our house. My wife was trying to decide what to keep and what to throw away and what to take back and keep in storage for another year. It was crazy and I decided that was enough so bought a backyard shed in kit form that a friend and I had up and ready to go in a day. I had everything from the storage unit across town in the shed out back the next weekend and it has saved my marriage and my back! Read the rest of this entry »

Bastard Sword - The Perfect Hybrid

Hanwei’s Bastard Sword is a very detailed replica of originally German and Swedish classic sword that eventually became very familiar to the eyes of the Dark Ages of Europe. This sword evidently got its name from the simple fact that it was intended to be a hybrid of a single-hand sword and a two-handed sword. As a result the design made it difficult to strictly classify this weapon either way. Read the rest of this entry »

Great Wedding Favor Ideas for You

When it comes to selecting wedding favors, there are a lot of choices and it can be difficult to choose which is your favorite. If you’ve set a theme for your wedding day, you may want to choose wedding favors which will compliment it. For example, you can select favors that match the season - autumn leaf shaped candles or coasters. For a beach or seaside marriage, shells stuffed with candies and wrapped up in tulle would be perfect. For the elegant and traditional marriage a silver picture frame place card holder would be useful and keep the formal theme in place. There are so many choices the real deciding factor is more likely your budget.

But even on the most minuscule of budgets, there are selections you’ll adore favors. Consider a pretty candle with a romantic poem on a tiny card placed in a tulle bag and tied with ribbon If you are keen on candles, you can select from many different types of candles. Gel candles are some of the newest and most popular wedding favors these days. A Classic Charlotte Bundform Pan

When we were growing up one of our favorite treats was angel food cake. I don’t know what it is about this cake, but it was perfect. Sweet and airy, we loved to cover it in strawberry topping and whipped cream. Or sometimes we’d make the slices really thin and fill them with ice cream to make the most delicious ice cream sandwiches!  Actually I still love angel food cake to this day and we still make it a lot at our home. We just made it at Easter and it was everyone’s favorite dessert. Of course it looked extra special because I baked it in my new Kaiser La Forme Charlotte Bundform Pan. Read the rest of this entry »

The Square on Squares Plant Stand is Perfect for the Front Porch

Regardless whether your front porch is shaped like mine or not, you will be thrilled with the effect that the Square on Squares Plant Stand can have on it! My porch is long and narrow, it really needed something to fill the space but it wasn’t deep enough to accommodate a chair. I considered large planters but it would take several and I hesitate to purchase large planters. My hesitation is based purely on the fact that once I get them filled I won’t be able to move them and my hubby says “dear, I am not a gardener, you do whatever you want with the yard but plan on doing it alone and that includes moving seasonal stuff in and out.” To that I say “thank goodness you don’t have to be an electrician in order to hang the Christmas lights.” Read the rest of this entry »

Aquasana Filters-Great For The Whole House

I’ve had those “small” filters for our kitchen for filtering our water. They work great, but my wife and I were talking about the rest of the house. I was commenting that my dark color golf shirts look real dingy after a few washes. She suggested I take them to the dry cleaners, but I said “no way” because of the cost involved. What about a home filtration system she said?  You know, one that filters the whole house. Ok, off to the Internet to do some searching. Got on a site called Better Water Store. They carry a filter called a Aquasana EQ-300 Rhino whole house filter. Read the rest of this entry »

Give Your Family The Royal Treatment With Chicken Ala King

Even though this dish has been around a long time, I’ll never get tired of it.  Now that I have a Crock Pot Chicken Ala King recipe that is every bit as good as my old skillet recipe, we’ll be enjoying it more often.  The recipe is pretty easy and basic, so once you get it in the crock pot, you might want to put together a batch of homemade biscuits to serve it over.  That’s a really nice touch that everyone enjoys.  You can also toast up some nice, thick and crunchy bread.  Just butter the slices and put them under the broiler until they brown. The Scottish Dirk by Cold Steel - A Piece You Need to Own

The Scottish Dirk was once used in ancient Scotland as a tool and a weapon. It was beautifully made and very effective, just like this true to original replica from Cold Steel. Although it is a replica, it is one that is well done and which didn’t deviate from the historical original. This means that it is an item for every collector of historical hand weapons. Of course those that love Scotland will like this dirk also, but role playing and people simply looking for something attractive will be satisfied also. Since it is battle ready and the blades sharp, it can also be used for training with daggers. Read the rest of this entry »

Cooking and Serving in a Corelle Casserole Set

We did a lot of entertaining at our home over the holidays. We had some family visiting from out of town that stayed for two weeks, so there were a few more mouths to feed than usual. Then there were larger gatherings and parties at Christmas and New Years, so all of that meant a lot of meals! We had a lot of big breakfasts, lunches, and of course lots of dinners. I do admit we did spend some afternoons and evenings eating out, but otherwise there was a lot of cooking going on in our kitchen.  I think the cookware that probably got the most use during that time was my Corelle Casserole Set. Do Garden’s Really Need Decorations

My wife and I have been in a discussion for a little over a year about how much and what, outside of flowers, shrubs, vegetables and herbs need to be in a garden.  I admit I am a minimalist and have felt that you don’t need all the trinkets in the flower pots, etc to have a functional garden.  Then 2 months ago I found this awesome Buddha bust that would look killer out in one of our small flowerbeds and I felt like we really needed this garden decoration to set this area apart from the rest.  My wife agreed and we now own a Buddha bust that lives out in the yard. Giraffe Earrings I Fell in Love With

I shouldn’t have been surprised; The Magic Zoo has already come up with so many unusual earrings that I adore. But when I found this pair of whimsical sterling silver giraffe earrings that seem to be looking right at me, I nearly fell off my chair! What a creative way to make them- it’s an angle I never expected to see in a pair of giraffe earrings. But when you think about it, it’s a vision you do see a lot of at the zoo, or hope to anyway. I think this is another home run for this artist. Read the rest of this entry »
